On October 15, 2009, the U.S. mint released the Lincoln Chronicles set which was limited to only 50,000 pieces. The sets, priced at $55.95, were sold out within days.
A quick search for "Lincoln Chronicles" on eBay shows 524 listings. As I search through the last few days of Completed Listings I see the highest winning bid so far was on October 20th and the winning bid was 299.99. More recent Completed Listings show selling prices between $118 and $150.
So why are people paying such a premium to own this set? Will the value of this set continue to decrease in value or will it hold at a higher price? Please share your thoughts in our thread in the fourm! There is also a poll and I'd like to see your predictions.
Nov. 6, 2009 Update: I am told the mint sold out of these sets 30 hours after release!
