The biggest books I am aware of are the Yeoman's Red and Blue books of U.S. coins. There's also Krause's Standard Catalog of Coins and those are divided into many books. Aside from the Standard Catalog of World Coins there's also Gold Coins, Unusual World Coins, and then they even get specific by country. So what other books are in your library and what do you think of them?

Century catalogue. As for Krause's 'Unusual World Coins',there is a lot of junk listed in there that should never be listed in a coin catalogue at all. I do have an old British Commonwealth catalogue that the late Jerome Remick wrote back at the end of the 1960's. Sometimes,it is helpful to have a specialised national catalogue handy as well,as there are varieties that are not listed in Krause at all. Aidan.

I also have a cheaper book thats the illustrated book of stamps and coins and though just a surface look at coins it has been a help. Note: I don't do stamps.

In my case,it is only banknotes, coins, currency tokens,& postal orders from across what was the British Commonwealth. Postal order collecting is very popular, especially in England.Have a read here; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postal_order/ . Aidan.
