You will all be pleased to know that I have now upgraded to Windows 7 & Internet Explorer 9 from Windows XP & Internet Explorer 8.

I have not yet found an open-source & freeware replacement program to power the scanner to replace Arcsoft's Photostudio 5.5 (which is NOT compatible with Windows 7 at all).

As soon as I am made aware of an open-source & freeware equivilant to http://www.hamrick.com ,I will be back to scan & upload more photos.

Aidan.

I've used the freeware 'Irfanview' for the last 5/6 years. It's small, compact and is very rich in features. It works with Windows 7(according to the blurb) and has a scanning facility. It's about the most popular and most downloaded graphics tool there is. I've tried dozens and Irfanview is the best in my opinion.

I've downloaded off http://www.faststone.com ,so I will see if that has a scanning facility.

I haven't use anything other than MS paint for scanning but I do use Irfanview for viewing moving gif images on my computer since apparently Windows no longer does that.

Nicholas,
I have found a free program called FreeKapture which I have downloaded.

It looks pretty good from the test that I did.

Both Faststone & Irfanview DID NOT work at all,as their cropping features are inferior to what is found on http://www.photoscape.org (which I downloaded through Google Chrome, but failed to download through I.E. 9.).

I use photoscape to take screenshots. It's handy. For editing though I much prefer GIMP.
