Today I spend 6 good hours reworking the way pictures are done on coinbrag.

Here's how it used to work:

Members added coins and got bragger tokens.
Coins pictures show up on the coin info pages.

Here's how it works now:
Members add coins and get bragger tokens.
The database now keeps track of who adds what pictures.
The coin info pages show the new pictures as well as displays the name of the bragger who uploaded the picture.

Now if you've added pictures in the past, I don't know who added what. So thank you for your efforts. The credit now goes to a fake user named "Coins" who actually gets the credit for a lot of things done in the background on this site.

Will this allow us to search for images by user? Or maybe something that can be added in the future?

That is something I have definitely been planning. In the future when you click on a user's profile you will be able to see every coin they have submitted as well as pictures.

I'm going to be working on some advanced ways to search the coin database as well. One new search option will be search by user.

Well I didn't realize it but I actually didn't fix the pictures well as I had first thought. Sorry if anyone had troubles. They are working 100% now.

I was able to add 600 pictures to the coin database today. I cheated and used the same reverse picture for identical coins of different years/mints. Since the coins look exactly alike on the reverse side it didn't make sense to require individual pictures.

Two cool new ways to show off coins:

The main page now shows a picture of the obverse of the newest coin added as well as the obverse on a random coin chosen from the database. Both pictures are links to the coin's page.

I've had these features planned since day 1 of coinbrag.com lol but until now it wasn't feasible to have because of the way I was storing pictures originally.

I agree 100%. It was long overdue :)

I've also done some tweaking behind the scenes to the site to help improve the search rankings. In a week or two maybe we'll see another jump in traffic.

Big update: Braggers can now edit the coin pictures they have uploaded.

I've had a few people put the wrong picture up. Either it was the obverse in the wrong spot or a completely different coin. Now you have the ability to fix it.

You can only edit your own pictures. Sorry but we don't want the hard work of others being replaced by other people. First come, first brag!

If you notice someone else's mistake please let me know. I'm working on making a report function for coins, hopefully that will make it easier to fix errors on the site.

I'm also going to enable the ability for every bragger to edit the actual coin information. It's a work in progress but expect it in the future!

As mentioned in the June post, braggers can edit their own coins once they've been added.

Today I've made some changes to the site in an effort to change how search engines catalog this site. Some coin links have been changed. I've done some testing and it looks like everything is functioning as it should.

If you see any crazy links, like you click on a 5 cent Canadian coin and end up with a Russian kopek, please let me know.
