I was just watching an episode of "Supernatural." It was the fifth episode of season seven and in the story, a witch was using old Romanian coins to assist her in casting spells. The coins mentioned were Wallachian ducats minted sometime between the 15th and 19th century. Unfortunately, they didn't show close ups of the coins. Still, I was excited to see coins mentioned as part of the plot.

So have you seen a coin mentioned as part of the plot of another series or movie?

Hmm, interesting. What will those Wallachian witches get up to next!

None spring to mind. Plenty movies featureing Kruggerands and bullion coins etc. Robin Hood movies often spoke of "that'll be 500 marks" ...for the King's randsome etc...but I can't think of anything right now that's specific.

Season 6 Episode 7 of Psych also had an episode where a very valuable U.S. coin was stolen.

A few quotes:

“I’m proud of you Shawn.” – Frank
“What about me? I knew the exact year of the coin!” – Gus
“Spoken like a man with no girlfriend.” – Frank

and

Shawn: "Those silly coin expos you go to. Do they really have coins that are worth more than their face value?"

Season 2 Episode 3 of the new Hawaii Five-O series. They find coins from an old Spanish shipwreck. They are clues to a murder of a salvage diver.

I'm now hooked on looking for more coin-related plots.

Really? You know, I've been racking my brain..and I still can't come up with anything exact. So, hows about 'See No Evil, Hear No Evil'? Wilder and Pryor are chasing a coin.. 'cept it's some kind of semi-conductor made into a coin shape.

There is a movie called "Three Coins in the Fountain" which publicized the legend "anyone who throws coins into the Trevi Fountain will one day return to rome"
